Why Choose Us

Local Dance Studio Creates An Atmosphere For Success!

Lake Shore Dance began in 1993, rejuvenating an existing studio into an exciting pre-professional training program! In the beginning, Lake Shore Dance had only 2 instructors, 2 studios, and under 100 students. Now, Lake Shore Dance has risen to the top in dance training in Southeastern Wisconsin with 9 faculty members, a gorgeous, state-of-the-art, three studio facility. Most importantly, our program has been proven time and time again as students graduate and launch their careers!

Now boasting a student body of over 300 students, the quality of training at Lake Shore Dance speaks for itself. When Amy Aichele began her business, she researched and developed a progressive curriculum of training that would prove to be most beneficial to our students. The curriculum, which is ever evolving and improving, is based on ballet. The directors and staff believe very strongly that a solid ballet background is essential to pursue a career in dance. Ballet is the foundation upon which all other techniques are built and it builds strong technique and strong bodies. The curriculum also stresses the importance of having a varied and diverse training background incorporating the techniques of not only Ballet, but also Jazz, Tap, Lyrical/Modern, Creative movement, Pointe, and Composition.

Dance is a performing art. Therefore, the directors developed a performance company and a pre-professional ensemble competition team that allows the students to perform frequently, in addition to our professionally produced end-of-the-year production. This allows our dancers to constantly improve their skills as performers.

The directors also recognize the importance of teaching career development skills to our students. They developed a pre-professional program to work on skills such as auditioning, developing resumes and teaching. The teacher training is further enhanced by hands on work in the classroom, first by demonstrating in class, then by assisting, and finally teaching. This program has proved successful throughout the years by producing several talented teachers.

Training and developing the body is only skin deep. Without nurturing the mind and the soul, the dancer within cannot emerge. Noticing this, the directors set up several activities throughout the year to help the students to bond both with one another and with the instructors. For example, students are invited to join in a sleepover at our studios three times a year. It is only through this development that dancers can feel free to express themselves in their movement, without inhibitions. They no longer just do steps. They tell stories. Without a bond of trust between the students and teachers, children dance hollow.

From early on, students are taught discipline and respect both in the classroom and out. They are encouraged to use manners, follow directions, take turns, share, and treat the other dancers and teachers politely. This discipline continues to grow as the dancer grows and reflects positively in their schoolwork, home life and social life. (see handbook for dancers)

Through these philosophies, the directors of Lake Shore Dance have proven that they have truly found the most effective formula for training whole dancers.
